Dear Senator Wiger:
As an environmentalist, I'm very concerned about energy issues here in
Minnesota. I recently learned that about 10% of the electricity consumed in
our state is an import purchase from Manitoba Hydfro, a Canadian
hydroelectricity producer. Although we buy that at a very low price, the
true cost involves the destruction of Canadian forests and the Cree Indians
who live there. I disapprove of that.
Minnesotans need to be aware of true energy costs. Therefore, I ask you to
learn more about the matter and to support a bill which would mandate full
disclosure about complete costs of our energy sources. I invite you to
attend a pressentation on this at my place of worship on Dec. 5 (see
enclosed [flier]).
Sincerely,
Diane J. Peterson
