Manitoba Hydro profit put at record $134M Winnipeg Free Press, 24 Feb 2000, pA8

Manitoba Hydro is on the road to a record-profit year, a company spokesman said yesterday.

Hydro public affairs manager Glenn Schneider said the utility racked up $78 million in net income for the nine-month period ending Dec. 31.

Schneider said it's expected the profit for the year ending March 31 will be $134 million, surpassing the $110 million mark set in 1997-98.

Export sales deserve much of the credit because they increased $37 million to a total of $289 million (or 14.7 per cent), he said.

Hydro officially took over Centra Gas last July 30, and that operation had a $3-million loss for the next five months.

However, Schneider said that's expected for that time of year, and a $9-million profit is projected for the three months ending March 31.
